The Kibingo washing station is located in Kayanza, near the border of Rwanda, one of the 17 provinces of Burundi. Consisting of over 3000 farmers and 1 000 000 coffee trees, the coffees grown in this area are known for their tropical fruit characteristics and sweet aftertaste. The coffee is milled at the Budeca Dry Mill, Gitega.
Kayanza is known as one of the best coffee producing regions in Burundi. It is also known for being the water source of the Nile River. The name Kibingo comes from the Kirundi word ‘urubingo’ which means ‘reeds’, because reeds were planted along the river. This coffee comes from 3 main hills in the area, Kaserege, Kibingo, and Kavumu, but there are 18 hills in total in this coffee growing area.
